It's time for an update. Almost as important as the reason for colourless bubbles I would say, but only just. See, you can blow colourful bubbles in space but not on earth. How strange is that? Aparently bubbles can have colour in space because gravity is not a factor, allowing the colour pigments to spread evenly around the bubble. Oh, what a facinating world we live in!
I am currently in a stage of language where there is quite a few spelling mistakes, some more severe than others and where my grammar and language in general is exceptionally poor, and I would like to apologize in advance for this. I will of course do my best to double check my writing, but somehow I always miss one or two.
Lately I've been what we Norwegians call "skulelei". This means that my motivation for going to school or doing work associated woith school is basicall non-existent. The reason for this has always puzzled me, both before and after I started university. In my case it almost always happen after a long vacation or break rom school, and it's effects are often multiplied if I've had en exceptional good time. In Rochester I generally avoid this feeling since we almost always have breaks between terms, allowing my brain to finish exams then take a break and then start all over again. For some reason that works out very well indeed. Here in Bangor, on the other hand, we just had a three week break before a couple of weeks of lectures and an examination period of four weeks. And it's messing with my head at an extraordinarily high level. Part of this is probably because my break was the most fun I've had in ages. First my mom and Ann-Iren came to visit me here in Bangor for a few days, and I got to show off and tell them all the cool things I've learnt about the area I'm in and its history, boosting my ego and confidence to a level too high to do anyone any good besides me. After they spent a couple of days here, we all travelled back to Norway together. I got to see almost all the people who are important to mee, as well as a particular girl on four legs whom I love beyond anything, and I even had time for a party and a couple of very nice movie nights with While. I even got to see a few more relatives than I expected! All in all four very efficient and loveable days. After that wonderful start of my break things only got better! I travelled to Crooked End Farm in Gloucestershire, England, where I met the most fantastic people. Crazy and over-sharing, but adorable anyways. I got to experience all the good parts of farming, and some not-so-pleasant ones. Lambs to bottle feed, pigs of all sizes to fodder, sheep both shy and curious, one huge horse and a tiny pony, dogs barking and loving, and all the people. I had an hour-old lamb poop on me, I got pushed over in the mud by pushy and hungry pigs headbutting me in the ass, I made a new friend in a sheepdog called Jess, I was spun around the pinky fingers of all the four-year-olds running around the place, and I wish I never had to leave.
It's better now, but I still feel the indifference that hugged me so tight after I got back to lectures. As if everything I do at school is pointless and expensive compared to the carefree love of a dog who wags her tail and hurls herself into your arms when she sees you in the morning, or the gentle and heartwarming baaing from the lambs waiting for their breakfast milk. Eye Heart You.
It feels like I'm split in at least three parts. One part of me is aching to get back to America and all of my dear friends over the pond, another is wishing I could stay here in Bangor learning about the medieval history of the UK and Europe in general, and a third part of me is desperately wishing I could go stay with everyone at Crooked End until the stubborn northwind persuades me to experience other things. Then there's the other parts of me that wants to just get a farm somewhere, a couple of Giant Schnauzer puppies, and just live there, or go travelling to warmer countries and get a tan, possibly go adventure somewhere. But those I can handle, it doesn't make sense to do either of those last things. The puppies are the ones who are loudest, apart from the three big ones, but I wouldn't want to put them through my excessive travelling across the globe and my heart agrees. A farm is just too expensive, it's getting warmer right here and now so I don't have to go anywhere else to get a tan, and I'm on an endless adventure anyways! I would love to blow colourful bubbles in space though, but who wouldn't.
Apart from all of this current insanity in my heart and mind, I am quite excellent. The weather is wonderful, I went walking in Snowdonia this past weekend, and I'm currently on top of all my school work (for once). I'm planning a London trip not too far in the future, and I'm making plans both for this summer and next year. I even have plans for the weeks between my last exam and my flight back to Norway! I listen to music, and watch Bones when it doesn't hurt my heart too much. Ah, Bones, how angry you make me.
I'm sensing this is quite the read for those dedicated enough to wonder what I'm up to. perhaps my English improved a little as my story progressed. It felt that way anyways. Well. Colourless bubbles or not,
Up, up and away. Stay safe and be nice.
